Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word which means "all all-encompassing," the group was intent on exploring every musical style.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made Toto a household name across the globe.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is a departure from the ballads on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and are put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an entirely different producer.
